RIVER ROSE
Art and fashion have been central to my life since birth shaping how I see the world. Growing up in a family of art collectors and curators of vintage and archival fashion, I was immersed in creativity from an early age. Today, River Rose is a New York City-based conceptual artist, fashion photographer, and model. My multidisciplinary background spans formal training in sculpture, photography, painting, textiles, and performance, and I draw from this breadth to create haunting, boundary-pushing work.
My art examines the complex interplay of personal identities as they shape my lived experiences and inform my interactions with systems of oppression, privilege, and discrimination. My work often juxtaposes my public persona—a fashion model featured in notable publications like Vogue, Elle China, Contributor Magazine, and Sicky Magazine —with the realities of living with a frail body. The human body is central to my artistic practice, serving as both subject and medium; I often incorporate personal materials, such as human hair, medical ephemera, and other elements of my own physicality—to create deeply intimate and candid works. Time, memory, grief, beauty, self-perception, and mortality are concepts I am often investigating through my artistic practice.
As a professional fashion photographer, I craft compelling visual narratives utilizing both film and digital mediums. I regularly experiment with alternative processes and physical media layers to enhance and alter my photography.
Through a multidisciplinary approach my artistic focus lies in exploring the intersections of identity, memory, and the human experience. By blending innovative techniques and intimate storytelling, I create art that resonates with diverse audiences while meeting the distinct needs of each client.
